Our Work

What Jathwa does

Jathwa works through two connected sections — one producing legal and human-rights knowledge, the other building capacity and skills. Four areas of work run across them.

Two connected sections

Jathwa works through two complementary sections, reflecting the core of the Center's work: producing knowledge on the one hand, and building capacities and skills on the other.

One

The Legal & Human Rights Section

Jathwa's Legal & Human Rights Section is concerned with producing, documenting and analysing legal and human-rights knowledge, with strengthening awareness of law and human rights, and with making specialised knowledge available in a form that is clear, reliable and open to understanding and application. The section focuses on questions of human rights, international law, fundamental rights and freedoms, conflict-related developments, alleged violations, and the legal and human-rights issues that affect individuals, communities and the most vulnerable groups.

The section works through research, monitoring, documentation and analysis, and through preparing reports, studies, research papers and awareness and knowledge materials — with the aim of contributing to a deeper understanding of legal and human-rights issues, and of providing knowledge resources that researchers, professionals, media practitioners, civil-society actors and the general public can draw on.

The section also places particular importance on scholarly and professional methodology, on verifying information, on relying on trustworthy sources, and on analysing evidence within its legal, political and social contexts — so that the content it presents is rigorous and responsible.

The section's role is not limited to producing specialised knowledge: it also works to bring the law closer to the public by simplifying legal concepts and terminology, and by producing awareness and educational content that helps individuals understand their rights and responsibilities and approach legal and human-rights matters with greater awareness.

The Training & Professional Empowerment Section

Jathwa's Training & Professional Empowerment Section is concerned with developing the capacities of individuals and professionals, strengthening their knowledge and skills, and providing learning and development opportunities that enable them to improve their performance, advance their professional paths, engage effectively in their fields of work, and contribute to public life.

The section focuses on delivering training and professional programmes that respond to the changing needs of individuals and institutions and combine theoretical knowledge with practical application — helping participants acquire applicable skills, develop their capacity to think, analyse, communicate, work and take initiative, and adapt to the rapid shifts in workplaces and across professional fields.

The section works by designing and delivering training programmes, workshops, and instructional and applied sessions, drawing on the expertise of specialists and practitioners across fields, with the aim of providing professional, hands-on learning experiences that build competence and widen opportunities for professional development and growth.

The section also places particular importance on keeping training tied to practical reality and to participants' needs, so that it does not stop at transferring information but works to turn knowledge into skills, and skills into practices and capabilities that can be put to effective use in professional life.

The section's scope is not confined to a single professional field or specialisation; it operates within a broad and flexible framework that allows training programmes to be developed across multiple areas, according to needs, priorities and developments in the labour market, with the possibility of adding new fields and programmes in future.

This includes, among its areas, training in media, digital media, social media and content creation, alongside a range of other professional fields and skills — allowing the section to respond to changes in the nature of work and to the emergence of new fields and skills.

Within the Training Section

The Media & Digital Media Section

Jathwa's Media & Digital Media Section is concerned with developing media and digital practice and strengthening the capacities of professionals, practitioners and those interested in media, communication and content creation — keeping pace with the rapid shifts in the media and digital landscape, and building the capacity to produce professional, credible and effective content.

The section works to build knowledge and skills across the forms of media, with a focus on the developments the digital environment has imposed and on the changing patterns by which information is produced, circulated and brought to audiences. It also seeks to strengthen a professional understanding of the role of media in society, and of the importance of responsibility, accuracy and verification in producing information and content.

The section focuses on developing the capacities of journalists, media practitioners, young professionals, students and others interested in the field, through training and professional development, and by providing spaces for learning, interaction and the exchange of experience with specialists and practitioners in the media and digital sector.

The section also develops programmes and initiatives aimed at strengthening practical skills in content production, managing digital platforms, using social media, engaging audiences, and working with modern tools and technologies — helping practitioners and those interested in the field keep pace with professional and technological developments.

The section places particular importance on professionalism and responsibility in media work, by reinforcing the principles of accuracy and verification, distinguishing information from misleading content, upholding professional and ethical standards, and encouraging critical thinking and a responsible approach to information and sources.

The section's work is not limited to training: it seeks to be a space that brings together learning, professional development, knowledge production, interaction and networking — enabling relationships between journalists, media practitioners, content creators, researchers, professionals and experts, and opening the way for exchanging experience, collaborating and developing media and digital initiatives.
